Top Ten Ultra Modern Weapons

In current volatile situations it is not the flashy F-16s or the nuclear submarines that come to rescue. The specialized forces with their modern weapons execute plans to perfection and avoid disasters.

 Here are ten weapons of the future that our infantry could unleash to combat terror and hostile situation in varied conditions and terrain.

1. Thermal Laser System

The Pentagon calls it the Thermal Laser System and it truly is a weapon of pain rather than destruction. It carries high-intensity Laser beams that will cause an unbearable burning sensation on the skin of the target. Since UN does not permit lethal Laser technology for warfare, the settings of the Lasers are tuned to just cause the burning sensation but not actually inflict burns. It is perfect for combat in an urban terrain for bringing down the enemy without firing bullets.

2. Corner Shot Launcher

Perfect for dealing with hostage situation and as you break down and enter into buildings and urban landscape, the Corner Shot Launcher is simply a perfect killing machine. Its bent shape along with a camera on top and a video screen allow you to look beyond a corner and shoot with absolute accuracy. And if you want variation, you can get a pistol, a grenade launcher or a 40mm assault rifle; all with same ability to peek around the corner.

3. Smart Self-Guided Bullets

If you thought that guided missiles and technology that follows the target was only restricted to fancy fighter jets and navy vessels, then Sandia National Labs would have a word or two to say about that. And that is thanks to the Smart Bullets that they have to offer. These miniature guided bullets pretty much add complete accuracy to a rifle shot. These bullets carry an optic sensor on their nose and an 8-bit CPU inside which guides their trajectory. Just point your rifle Laser, fire and then you can even hit a moving target as long as your Laser stays focused.

4. Electromagnetic Rail Gun

Instead of relying on gun powder for propulsion, the Electromagnetic Rail Gun relies on an electromagnetic impulse to fire it on. The bullets are more like mini missiles and they can travel a distance of 100 miles in a minute and travel at mach eight. They can rip through enemy armor with ease and do so from miles away with pin-point accuracy. Seems like the road ahead is to use electromagnetic impulses to propel ammunition!

5. Beam of Pain in an armored vehicle

This is the Thermal Laser System that we talked about earlier with improved amplification and popularly known as the ‘Pain Beam’. Plans are to put it on an armored vehicle and deploy it in some of the places where US is at war and trying to maintain peace among civilians. This will help in controlling mob without the danger of casualties.

6. Metal Storm’s Virtual Minefield

This is a simply ingenious weapon that allows you to keep an eye on infiltrating threats in an unmanned post. The Metal Storm’s weapon first fires a series of sensors over the area that needs to be protected and if any of these sensors are triggered by infiltrators, then it can fire ammunition from one of its many barrels with lethal consequences. The advantage of this system is that it can be switched off at any point ensuring that we do not create permanent deadly minefields and a sensor can work on multiple occasions making sure that the system is fool-proof from several waves of attacks.

7. XM25 Counter Defilade Target Engagement System 2

This one is a revolutionary weapon that is already saving quite a few lives in combat situations. The XM25 fires a bullet that explodes at a fixed point and can be programmed to explode at specific distances. It allows you to fire a bullet at a corner which you cannot see beyond and thereby inflicting shrapnel damage.

8. GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator

This might not be designed for the infantry or for combat situation in an urban environment, but it still makes the list for its unique ability to reach places no other missile can. This 30,000 lbs weapon can cut through even 200 feet of super-strong concrete before it delivers a deadly payload. This pretty much ensures that no bunker on the planet is safe anymore.

9. S-500

This is a Russian surface-to-air missile system that outdoes even the ultra-modern U.S. Patriot Advanced Capability-3 system. This ballistic missile destroyer can even bring down hypersonic incoming threats and it does so not just in earth’s atmosphere, but also in space. With a range of 3,500 Km, these missiles can bring down even the best stealth fighter jets on the planet. Could well be the first step towards space-age wars!

10. Sea Ceptor

Britain’s latest project called the Sea Ceptor is aimed at giving its Navy the ability to strike down incoming missile threats even when they approach at speeds of around Mach 3. The system is still in development and with a range of 500 square miles; these super-missiles could well find their way into the Royal Air Force and the Army’s weapons catalogue.
