Nexus 7, goes on sale on British high streets today. Reviews
of the 7-inch tablet have generally
been positive and US retailers, who began selling it at the weekend,
reported
shortages within 48 hours.
The Android tablet will run Google’s latest Jelly Bean Android software
and is a serious gaming and surfing gadget. The 8GB version costs £159 while the 16GB memory
gadget costs £199.– less than half the
price of the cheapest iPad 2 – the Nexus 7 has an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core
processor, WiFi (not 3G) and a 1.2-megapixel camera.
But Apple is unlikely to let Android rivals steal the limelight for too
long. As the imminent iPhone 5 prepares to wrestle back the smartphone
crown from the Samsung Galaxy S3, a cheaper and smaller ‘iPad Mini’ tablet could go head-to-head with the Nexus 7 with a potential release later this year.

Nexus 7, which is made by Asus, is that it will always have the latest version of Android running on it. Unlike other Android smartphones and tablets, which are tardily upgraded by their makers, the Nexus 7 will be upgraded by Google itself. In fact, the company recently moved the first update to the device, upgrading it from Android 4.1.0 to 4.1.1.
